Affiches

The friend of art who last summer kept his eyes open in the streets of the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, suddenly found himself in front of a large-sized, tall poster which distinguished itself through its original shape and coloring. This beautiful poster was the work of graphic designer Dimiter Dimitrov who belongs to that still young generation and elite of Bulgarian artists who dedicate themselves fully and enthusiastically to industrial art. Dimitrov was born in 1928 in the town of Russe on the Danube and, after graduation from grammar school, first worked as a draftsman in a film studio. He was already 30 years old when in 1958 he began his studies at the State Art Academy in Sofia where he found an excellent and understanding mentor in Professor Alexander Popplilov, the Rector of the Academy and head of the class for poster design. Since his graduation in 1964 he has been working for the Department of Industrial Design in the Centre for Industrial Design in Sofia. This position gives him ample opportunity to deal with all artistic and practical problems of applied art. We present here for the first time a small selection of posters designed by this gifted young artist who entered the scene only a few years ago and immediately proved that he is one of those promising talents of Bulgarian graphic art from whom we can still expect great things.
